Squeaker is fighting off a cold and the Daddy person has been off running a triathlon this weekend, so I don't quite a current post for you. I have been saving this one for a rainy day.
One story I can't resist telling actually happened on the way to the last wedding. Squeaker wanted to listen to her playlist, so we put it on. If you will permit me, read the following out loud using your best VISA commercial voice:
iPod connect kit for the car - $160
Regimental Band - Pipes and Drum CD - $17
Aux cable for the rental car - $5
"Shenandoah", "Scotland the Brave", and "Bonnie Blue Flag" 'with the words' - $2.97
Allowing Squeaker to pick the music on countless road trips - No Charge
Being able to command "Join in Yankees!" when my daughter belts out "Bonnie Blue Flag" - Priceless!
In an unrelated note, the editors of squeakerpants.com regret that has taken two centuries to come close to achieving for all Americans that which was set out for us in the opening paragraph of the Declaration of Independence.
For her part, Squeaker is a big fan of Abraham Lincoln. She refers to him as her president, and bedtime for the last few weeks has involved reading the Caldecott Medal winning biography of him. On the other hand, Squeaker is on the verge of mounting a letter writing campaign to the Newbery Medal committee.
Squeaker has picked up on the shiny medals that award winning books wear on their covers, and she views it as deep injustice that all of her Laura Ingalls Wilder books didn't win medals.

After Church
The Daddy person was out of town this weekend for a wedding. Squeaker was mindful of the Daddy person's current athletic endeavors though.
Squeaker: Brite after church I want to ride my tricycle to the pool. All the way to the pool.
Brite: Honey, that's pretty far. Why would you want to do that?
S: I have to get ready for my triathlon.
B: Really?
S: I'm going to ride my tricycle so far and then run so far.
B: And then swim? (noticing that Squeaker forgot that the pool was her destination.
S: And then I will be ready.
Hopefully the Daddy person will be ready too...

Birthday Girl
Tuesday, September 7, 2010
Elena, do you hear that sound? I think that's my alarm beeping.
Sorry for the out of schedule post, but we here at squeakerpants.com thought it was worth marking the first day of school.
Since Sleeperpants tends to wake up on her own schedule, we decided to get her a 'big girl' alarm clock. It beeped for almost five minutes, filling the house with its electronic warble, before she rolled over or even said a word. Once they had decided upon the cause, Squeaker turned it off, got dressed, and came downstairs for breakfast. Stay tuned for more news...

Off to the Wedding
Squeaker and I are off in far Indiana this weekend for her great aunt's wedding. We keep calling her a 'flower pot', but she reminds us that she says 'flower girl'.
The Daddy person requested one of her favorite Patsy Cline songs, 'Crazy'. Squeaker got very excited when it came on and dragged me out the dance floor. And then she left me to find her Aunt Gidget. This pattern kept up all most of the night. The Daddy person would try to dance with her and Squeaker would smile and head off to dance with someone else. I did get the last dance though...
